Type 71. The range claimed is as follows. If the set is on the deck = 50 miles, but if fitted below decks = 25 miles.
This transmitter is a single valve HF transmitter. It may be fitted:
a. In the second office in conjunction with an MF set.
b. In the Auxiliary Office.
c. In a separate office by itself of virtually any type of ship requiring HHF (High High Frequency)/VHF working using it to and from aircraft. Not the frequency range above. The normal fit of the Type 71 which uses the Type 7H transmitter is usually ABOVE THE UPPER DECK in a position secure from gun blasts and spray and also as far as possible from receiving aerials of other sets and from rigging and wire stays. |
