CONFUSED DOT COMWatch out, watch out, don't dare go out The Elf and Safety man's about He says that there are nasty things Called roundabouts and slides and swings And climbing frames yhou mustn't climb Because they'll hurt you every time You shouldn't walk along the street 'Neath hanging baskets trim and neat 'Cos they might fall down on your head And, if they're heavy, leave you dead! Don't lean a ladder on the wall It just might move and make you fall And never run 'cos you might slip And end up with a broken hip Don't walk on roads if they are wet For Elf says you can safely bet Your feet will slip and down you'll go To breaki your ankle or your toe What does it ean for me, a boy I dare not play games with a toy The plastic ones will poison me And metal ones endanger me I should not go out on my bike Or swim, or take off on a hike For danger lurks in everything And only pain and death they bring I take in all this good advice That says the world's not very nice And wonder what I'll do today To keep these bad things all at bay But I proclaim that, while alive Despite the pitfalls, I'll survive I won't take chances and, instead, I'll safely spend my life in bed! |
A COMMITTEE!Oh give me your pity. I'm on a committee Which means that from morning to night We attend and amend and contend and defend Without a conclusion in sight We confer and concur, we defer and demur And reiterate all of our thoughts We revise the agenda with frequent addenda And consider a load of reports We compose and propose, we suppose and oppose And points of procedure we shun But though various notions are brought up as motions There's terribly little gets done We resolve and absolve, but never dissolve Since it's out of the question for us What a shattering pity to end our committee Where elese could we make such a fuss?BE PREPAREDClose your eyes a moment and walk down memory lane To the biting cold of winter and frosted window pane Fields and roads and gardens covered thick with snow The spectre of global warming we didn't really know Tradesmen trudged for miles to get deliveries round Milk floats - chains on their wheels - Stopped the slipping on the ground Friendly neighbours cleared your steps Put salt along the paths Mothers made toast round smoky fires While grannies knitted scarves Children walked to school back then With chilblains on their toes Only to sit in school all day In wet and woollen clothes Inside we sat around the fire with legs a shade of mottle And outside on the doorstep milk froze inside the bottle Now come back down from memory lane Come back with a heavy jolt 'Cos nowadays a dust of snow Brings the country to a halt! |
